I was gonna call it Frankensteinberger, but I resisted the temptation. Anyway, let's say you had to piece together one bass from parts of all basses currently available. This neck. Those pickups. That body. This onboard preamp. On and on, down to the nut, if you want to be that picayune. Let's say further that you cannot, by rule of law, play a bass that doesn't mix and match components and that it is also decreed that you can only own and play one bass. What would it be made (So you can't respond by saying, "I love my (insert favorite bass here); that's what I'd play. Wouldn't change a thing." Uh-uh. Can't do that. So. What would your creation look like before you zapped it with electricity and brought it to life?

Sorry. That sentence in the middle should have read, "what would it be made OF." Even confused myself for a sec.

I would like to have a Spector/Sadowsky mix. The Spec's would be something like this:

24 fret Maple neck & fret board w/Abalone crown inlays.
    Spector headstock
Downsized ash Sadowsky J body w/quilted maple top & the NS countour.
    Sadowsky onboard pre-amp w/EMG 40 J p/u's
    Spector high mass bridge.

    A soundgear shaped body
    A JB style neck
    A MusicMan headstock
Barts JB style pup + Soapbar
A great preamp (that I have to meet yet)
  5. 20 fret P-bass neck, with matching headstock and those silly elephant tuners

    Jazz + MM humbucker

Blue or red P bass body

    White pickguard

Passive electronics. (Is it possible with a MM type humbucker?)

    3 way selector switch

Vol Vol Tone Tone on a control plate with stratocaster type jack

    One of those Grotoh bridges

    Medium-large frets
  6. 5 String
    Ibanez BTB headstock
    Spector US body
    MM 5 string neck
MM Bridge pup, EMG neck soapbar
    3 way selector switch
    3 band EQ - EMG
    Vol, Balance, Bass, Mid, Treble
    Walnut body
Birdseye maple top - Emerald Green burst
    Maple/Purpleheart/Wenge/Purpleheart/Maple neck(Purpleheart in 1mm strips)
    Neutrik Locking jack(side mounted)
    Dunlop straplocks

    That's about it.
  7. 5 string.. Spector style ash body with quilt maple top.. some sort of green stain

the body would have a small sort of depression carved out just just between the lower horn and the neck.. I played a yamaha with something like this and it was nice for slap and pop.. this would be sort of a valley, and not a cutaway like on the yamaha

through-neck made out of Wenge with an ebony board with the same dimensions and frets as a Spector (I guess that is sort've cheating because this is a combination of Spector and Warwick and not an actual existing part.. but it's my bass!)

2 EMG CS pickups with an Aguilar preamp, Spector piezo bridge

ultralite tuners, all gold hardware, no inlays on the fretboard, just sidedots

oh yea... and a Zvex Wooly Mammoth built into it.. for when I really need to go over the top!

Fender Jaguar Body. Transparent Blue, with white pearl pickguard.

Musicman Humbucker at the bridge. 3 band active eq.

34" 20 fret rosewood neck with musicman head stock.
  9. Well, I like the American Fender Jazz Deluxe a lot, but I'd also want a P pickup on it, maybe it could fit between the others like a Stu Hamm Urge II. Wait, that just leaves me with a Stu Hamm Urge II with a Jazz Bass body and stuff. Hmm. Oh well, there's no way I could do it anyway, I'd need different basses just to have different strings, rounds on one, flats on another.

and now, to chime in with the obligatory smart-aleck comment: shouldn't that be Frankenstein's Bass, as Frankenstein was the doctor, not the monster?

I would first think of a body desing that represents my feelings when playing bass.
Then I would add a "Spector Like" curvature on that design..
Now.. a bent Hipshot "A" Bridge to contour the body.
Ohh.. its gotta be neck trough.. something like a Warwick, and then combinate it with something like Mahogany or Zebrawood for a big Lowmidrange sound..
Oh.. I now I thing of having a set of electronics from Bartolini 18V.. 3 Band.. Active Passive..
UHm... nice.. Lets make it 6 Stringed.. Now for the body woods I think Zebrawood would be nice and savage.. and the tone would be great.. For the back maybe Mahogany or Swamp Ash..
Bart Pickups.. and a lot of switches to play with...
So.. lets add this to that.. a bit of blood there... some brains..

    Upps.. I already have that!!!
My custom Frakenbass.,.. the Omega Bass 6

A little over six years. Hell of a bump. Also, I apparently used smilies six years ago.

And, except for the electronics, I can still stand by that choice six years later. Not bad.

Mine would be simple. I would take my T40 pickups and put them in my Spector Legend. That is, if I HAD to.

  19. Hmmm...let's give this a shot

A fender J-style neck with the T-bass headstock made out of maple with a rosewood fingerboard, Pearl block inlays. Satin finish

50's p-bass body with belly contour, made out of chambered mahogany, single coil p-bass pickup. Two-tone sunburst

Time to get warmoth on the phone
