saw the weirdest, most creative bass last nite. the guy who was rehearsing in the studio after us had this thing..... looked like a tele neck with I'm not sure what body. it had four strings, but the tailpiece and bridge were from a five string with the works for the D string ripped out. there was a space between the G and D string. it had a 5 string MM pu right against the bridge, and a split 4 string P pickup with one on top of the other (not side to side) in the neck position. he said it was still a work in progress.

wasn't sure if he was nuts or had good reason for the strange bass, so I aksed him. he said he slaps a lot, and the space btwn the G and D gives him a lot more room for plucking on the g string  . he could also more easily pluck chords with the D and G with the extra space  . He demonstrated and obviously knew his sh*t.

    I was impressed.
