OK, new problem with my Ibanez SR505:

    G string weirdness.

For the past two days, my G string has been sounding crappy. Fret-buzz/distortion/harmonic type sound, almost as if that particular frequency has been blown out or something. I'm getting the same problem when I play through headphones via BassPod or my tascam recording unit. I know for sure it's not the tweeter on my cab, and it has nothing at all to do with my rig. (I've problem-shot that whole scenario.)

I changed the battery on the pre-amp, thinking that might be it. No dice. Same sound.

I know plenty of folks here love the Ibanzez SR's. Quite frankly, I can't wait to get a Warwick so I can chop this POS up for firewood. I couldn't even sell it on Craigslist out of good conscience.

  2. There's nothing inherently wrong w/the SR505 model. This thread should be moved to the repair forum. This seems like a problem easily fixed.

Sometimes strings get bent at certain points, and they buzz. Might be worth replacing the string and see if that solves the problem. Imagine how cool it would be to solve the problem for $5!

Often a string taking a bump from a desk, doorway, or multitude of different ways can do damage to the string and cause it to buzz.

Or, your action may have changed or slipped and is now lower and hence buzzing.

Or, could be to straight of a neck and to low of strings.

Or, is the bass tuned normal tuning and always has been?

Or, did the bass sit with no strings on it for a while?

All kinds of things could have happened, but odds are it's not worth cutting up the bass over. Sounds like you're just wanting an excuse to get a Warwick.
