I just posted this because this is such a good looking bass, and it is hard to find actual clips of Fred Hammond playing.:bassist:

I totally agree, it's a shame the lack of clips of Fred Hammond playing.

It's tough to find video of him playing (the Purpose By Design DVD and the Commission Live Reunion DVD are a couple videos out there), but you can hear his playing on all of his studio material - Fred always plays his own bass parts, and his sound is very distinctive.

  8. Tone is awesome!!

  9. i read this entire thread before clicking on the youtube link. i was loving the fact that Fred was getting props for his playing. then something occured to me as i was watching the video:

    that's not Fred Hammon!!!

of course, i was thinking of the Dark Star pickup guy. Fred Hammon... no "d". anyway, you can imagine my surprise...

I believe Fred is using a detuned setting - am I correct? Does it sound so to you guys?

That was me too when I hit the video link. I had knee surgery two days ago and I'm sitting in bed with a fresh oxycontin in me just going... huuuh? Btw, I think a Darkstar'd Ken Smith would be ILL!

i really like that clip, but that's just not my sound. i played a bass i just got in (carvin icon) and it sounded very similar. very hifi and i couldn't stand the way i sounded this morning. i'm glad it works for him and i love his stuff, but for me, it doesn't work.

    Nice tone and nice playing.
I also like his singing / playing independence, that`s really hard to achieve !!
