A friend sent me some MP3's to put bass lines to, so i need a program that will play the MP3, then record what I am playing over the mp3, and then save it with the new track in it..

I don't want to spend money on a program, because i wont use it often...

Is there a cakewalk demo or something?

Most of the big pro apps have demo versions that basically give you everything, but limit you to 4 or 8 tracks.

I'd imagine beside PT free, there is also Cubase free and logic free and acid free...etc. :p

    Here's the Versiontracker link(for windows)

If you're talking about the Sonar demo, yes, that would be a little daunting at first. Try the Cakewalk Guitar Tracks trial version, it's very simple/straightforward and would work fine for the task.
