I'm selling this bow because it's not getting any use currently. This is a pernambuco, French bow, made in Brazil. It is stamped Valdecir, it has an ebony frog with no dot, leather grip with no silver wire, salt and pepper hair. It's a nice stick, but it does have a knot at its midpoint. The know has never caused any problems.

I believe that this is a pit bow as it's quite short, playing length of the hair is about 19.5'.
It weighs 128g. $550 shipped with case.

Pit bow, as in you'd use it to play in a pit orchestra/band where space is limited? Never heard of that but it makes sense to me.

I know, e.g., that the 1/4 bass I have (to rent to students) has a correspondingly shorter bow, too. Not sure what, other than quality, would differentiate a 1/4 bow from a pit bow. I'll have to measure the 1/4 bow when my student is here with it later in the week.

Ah, the mysteries of playing the bass ...

    I think it's well-balanced.

I just had the bow on trial for a week - not for me, but certainly not a student bow: well balanced, good bite; it's an excellent bow for solo/chamber music or matched with a smaller bass.
Not that much shorter than my Tom Owen bow, by the way.
A very good bow for the price.

    Steve,

This bow is a little bit short, but the tip and frog are of normal size. It's a nice bow, just not one that I'm using.

The bow is back in Nashville and ready for trial, I'll throw in a case too.

Bow is on its way back from another trial. It's a great stick that needs a new home!
