Hey, I truly hope I'm not stepping on anybody toes but I must ask does anyone know of a good tech here in the tri-state NY area that can perform this task on a vintage instrument. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you
Not sure if he'll do the re-plane -- he had to adopt a No Woodworking policy in his shop a few years back due to his wife's allergies -- But Evan Gluck/New York Guitar Repair will do a fabulous fret job. Matt Brewster/30th Street Guitars and Paul Nieto/GuitarTech are also real whizes when it comes to fretwork, repairs, and set-up.
Bob MacBlane has done a lot of great work for me - the most recent major undertaking was replacing a broken truss rod in a Fender Mustang Reissue, which included removing and replacing the fretboard... I'd strongly recommend him for a job like that - excellent work, good turnaround, and very good rates... MacBlane Stringed Instruments - Home
I'm not sure the Finger Lakes region is what OP had in mind when he said "the tri-state NY area" but it's always good to have options!
