fret wear

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by hiphopbassist, May 9, 2002.

  1. got a zon sonus 4 string that i'm thinking about putting blue steels or rotosounds on. both would be stainless steel. i realize there will be fret wear, but how significant will it be? i this something i should even be worrying about? i'll be playing with loud guitars so i figure these will help get heard. but at the same time i don't want to destroy my frets. i like this bass and don't have the funds for another one.

thanks in advance for your help/opinions.

Any stainless steel roundwound will be the most abrasive type of string but the tone advantages of stainless steel is worth it to me. Will there be fretwear? Yes....Should I worry about it? No, it's part of the maintenance of playing bass. If you want that sound then be prepared to have your frets dressed and eventually a refret. And don't rule out DR stainless steel strings. They are my faves!!
