Fretless and freted necks on same MM

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by chalie, May 23, 2005.

  1. Hi there,
I got a 1990 fretless Stingray 5 and I wonder if I could place a fret neck which will be make by one of those custom makers on this bass.
Will I have any trouble ?
I think there should not be any trouble even with the sounding from the pup but just wanted to make sure before placing the order.
    Thanksss

Yes, it can be done, but every time you want to go from fretted to fretless, you'll have to unstring, remove the neck, install the other neck, restring, set up the bass, and in the end between having the second neck built and all the work between swapping necks, it's almost cheaper and certainly much easier to buy a second bass.

  3. Yes, but I already have too many of that so I try to stay on same number of basses I own but more verity.
If that is working well I might consider getting one.
Do you have any preference for ex-factory neck's builder.

    Thanks
