    Hi,

I have a bass that I am considering converting from fretted to fretless.

Recently, I tried a fretless Celinder with a lacquered fretboard that sounded amazing. I doubt that it "just" has to do with the fact that the fretboard was lacquered, but I have never heard a fretless bass sing that nicely...

So, I was wondering if anybody had any opinions about what different coatings do to the tone of a fretless bass?

I have searched TB or answers, but mostly I got luthiers' discussions regarding the technical aspects - how to apply the coating best, etc.
