Fretless Maple J-neck options

    I'm looking into buying a fretless Jazz neck with a flamed maple board, but I don't want to have to use flatwounds- I want the traditional mwah and Jaco-esque tone that comes from rounds and harder woods like ebony. The greatest sound I ever heard from a fretless was a Pedulla Pentabuzz, with a Zon Sonus coming in a close second. Is there anyone out there who has seen or used maple boards with a coated fingerboard? Do they approach the true round/mwah fretless tone?

    No one? I'm trying to find out if there's such a thing as a coated (Pedulla-style) maple board.
