Hi all, i'v just bought my first fretless bass (this one; http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0326608500) and i'v noticed some disturbing scratches in the neck which echo it's roundwound strings, all down the length of the neck.
This made me think that roundwound strings are perhaps not so good for a fretless, is this true, and is there anything else I should be aware of for keeping a fretless neck healthy?
  2. With most fretless necks, any rounds are gonna leave marks. Ebanol on the VM series is supposed to be more resistant to it but I have marks on mine now.

I've since put flatties on it - they give a different tone but don't chew up the neck and still sound great to boot IMO.
