I've never heard a fretless p-bass. Does anyone have a sound clip they can post or could someone give me an example of a bassist that uses one?

Here are some albums on which the bassist used a fretless Precision:

"Frampton Comes Alive" - Peter Frampton

    "Livestock" - Brand X

Can't think of any more at the moment, but a search will likely yield more results.

If you'd like, I've got a (rather crappy) recording of myself doodling on a fretless Washburn with a single P pickup on a Soundclick website. I can send you the link if you wish.
  4. Pink Floyd's "Hey You" (The Wall) is all about a fretless P, I think.
  5. Here's me playing my '71 factory fretless P. It was a rush job so we didn't spend a lot of time on the tone, but it doesn't sound too bad. It's DI'd, via a Sansamp.

I never thought it to be a Precision on "Hey You", but I could be wrong.
  8. My fretted MIM-P is very "woody" or upright sounding. It has a DiMarzio Will Power Middle pickup with TI Jazz Flats installed.

Mine does not do the traditional "P thing", so I'm contemplating neck swapping with my fretless Jazz, and make the P fretless.

Anybody have any thoughts about a fretless P doing a good imitation of an upright?

I believe the bass player from Brand X, Percy Jones, used a fretless Wal. Check out this song for a sweet fretless bass line.
