Starting to learn how to slap, and I find it's much harder on a fretless. That's my main instrument, tho, and I'm planning on moving to it exclusively if I can figure out a way to get a good slap tone -- I hardly use slap anyway, I just need something passable.

So far I've found that fretless is *extremely* sensitive to the amount of force used on the slap -- too little and it's a thud; too much and it's just mud. I have, on occassion, experienced a very nice tone but it's hard to replicate consistently.

    Anyone been through this before?

    I'll give that a shot...

Particularly because a couple of days of serious slapping are beginning to wear on the heel of my rosewood board! That's no good...

    I need a graphite neck :)
