Ok guys, now how sweet would a fretless violin bass be? I want one! My question is, do they even exist?

My ol' Höfner Beatle bass is defretted, and I use a Fishman archtop bridge with a piezo pickup. The original Höfner guts have been taken out, and it sounds very good, sort of acoustic sounding, but with more sustain to the notes than my BSX Allegro.

I played one and wasn't too impressed. The Violin Bass has a lot of mids by design.
When fretless it becomes very honky.

So you find that to be a good alternative to pizz upright?

Could you give some details on the pickup? I'd be interested in doing this with an SX or Agile VB.

The Epi EB-1 re-issues came in a fretless version.
