Fretless with P/J P'ups

Discussion in 'Pickups & Electronics [BG]' started by Bassman_Spike, Aug 28, 2004.

  1. Hello All,

I just defretted my old bass, it has p/j pickups.

I was wondering if there are any mods you can do to P/J pickups to get more variety of sounds. Things like the series parralell mod on a J-bass.
I dont want to change the pickups, this is my project bass i just want to muck around and try new things, and hopefully end up with a good bass.

You can do the parallel/series mod on a P/J too.
An interesting mod that can be done on a fretless PJ : a setting with full J and only the E and A part of the P.
This way you get some body from the lower strings and keep a thin mwah on upper strings.
  3. Hmm that sounds interesting...do you have any instructions or diagrams for any of those mods?

The parallel/series mod can be done just like on a jazz bass.
For the other one, you can just add a simple switch or push pull the bypasses the D-G coil.
  5. Nice, thanks for that....any other suggestions?
