    Cort Curbow.

Made of luthite so hell it'll last forever and the tone will last you for a good long time. Definitely give them a shot.

mtd kingston is another great bass in that range...if you go with a cort curbow, make sure you order one directly from greg...you get an awesome set-up, and barts to boot...

I second all the above. Almost any bass builder can get stabilized wood sot ask them to look for some stabilized ebony or whatever wood you choose. Your fingerboard is the life of a fretless instrument!!!http://boydbasses.com
  5. You could get a used MIA Jazz bass for that much, I've had bad experiences with Cort's non-custom shop instruments.
