Frets coming loose

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by Cambass, Feb 27, 2001.

  1. G'day

For some time I've had a rattle whenever I fret the G on the bottom E string. I didn't take much notice and I thought it had something to do with the action. But, having lowering the action the other day (see other post) it was still there but it wasn't worse as I expected.

So I looked closely at the frets and noticed on the 4th and 6th fret that it had started to come out of it's groove in the fretboard. It's only very slight, and I think I could fix it at home.

My question is how should I go about getting the fret back into it's normal place? Is there away to do it at home or should I take it to a shop?

if it's only coming out at the end, then wick some cyanoacrylate glue ("superglue") into the slot at the edge while holding or clamping the fret down. It should take hold after a minute.

    good luck
