Frets

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [DB]' started by David Kaczorowski, Aug 15, 2001.

  1. For lots of great information for about the bass, I highly recommend _A New History of the Doublebass_ by Paul Brun. Learn about such obscure and interesting things as the use of frets to assist in intonation but also to keep the strings from flapping against the fingerboard; leather gloves to prevent burnt and bleeding fingers; and the fisticuffs method in which all four fingers were used to stop every note.

  2. I'm a bass guitarist, so forgive me if this is a stupid question....do modern double basses have frets? I've never seen one with them, so is it a matter of choice, as it is with bass guitar?

  3. David,

I know it's not on topic here but I'm just a posting fool here tonight.

I really liked your performance at the ISB. I actually understood it. Which really scares me. At my age you would think your taste in music would be set in stone.

No, modern double basses do not have frets.

Do they even make an URB with frets? That'd be cool IMO...
