On my backup bass (Peavey Milestone) every fretted note on the G string above the 5th fret sounds a bit dull and "choked off" when I pop the string it sounds like when you try to pop on a fretless, no top end zing. If I bend the string up, all the life comes back. Ideas? I'm thinking about taking it back to the shop, the thing drives me nuts and I want to be rid of it!

51 views and no ideas? It's not looking good for the Peavey...

Have you tried raising the saddle slightly on that string? It is not likely that go have a 15 fret dead spot. I would suspect a setup issue.

Yea just set it up. Sounds like you need to raise the saddle. Drop it off to be set up if you're not comfortable doing it yourself. Doesn't cost much at all

I've raised it. In fact, when I bought it (used) I assumed it was a set up issue.

    *Update*
Your post gave me an idea. I tightened the truss about 1/8 turn and raised the saddles a bit. Viola! Thanks!
