Fretting about Frets

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by relman, Jun 25, 2001.

  1. Well, I have a little problem.
I am in between choosing a Fretted or Fretless Mexican Jazz Bass, and i have a little predicament.
I love the fretless sound, the way it gives me freedom and the posibility of more melodic music, but the thing is I am afraid that as i don't have the frets i will end up playing too much.
I also love the sound of my friend's mexi jazz with flatwounds...

    help me!!!!!

Sounds like you prefer the fretless; go for it. Though I've never heard of fretless instruments making people overplay. Usually it's the opposite, because of intonation considerations.

You are choosing between a fretted and an unfretted. You like unfretted (perhaps also fretted). Then what is the problem?

Less frets - more music - more fun.

No frets - all music - all fun

    Get it?
