I got a line on a vintage 60's Fender, so i'm letting this beauty go. Something seldom seen..An (early) natural '82 Fender Walnut Precision Special in excellent condition. (Got her from forum member M5Yates a couple of months ago)

    From the 1982 Fender Catalog:

    "Precision Special
Bassists, because of the nature of the instrument are most able to benefit from onboard active electronics. In particular, the inclusion of controls incorporating both boost and cut for bass and treble(instead of the conventional "treble cut tone control")that greatly increases tonal variations. In response to this need, Fender offers a deluxe version of the Precision Bass, the Precision Special. The active battery powered pre-amp delivers boost or cut up to 15 db's with separate bass and treble controls. Should the long-life battery go dead during a performance the Precision Special converts to conventional passive operation-identical to a standard Precision Bass- at the flip of a switch. Additional features of the Special include an extra-heavy bridge design, and wear-resistant 22k gold electroplate on all hardware.
    *Walnut Precision Special
All the same sonic versatility and luxury of the Precision Special combined with the beauty of the highest quality solid AMERICAN BLACK WALNUT body and neck. A step up".

Some pics (she looks way better in person!):

    Body.

    Headstock.

    Tuners.

She's pretty light at 8.5 pounds:

    Weight.

    Specs:

    1982 Walnut Precision Special
The nut is 1.65" (or B width)
The neck has the thinner D shape
Solid black walnut body and neck
One of reportedly less than 200 made
This is one of the earliest P Specials produced (low ser. number)
    Tweed hard case included
    Excellent condition, fantastic tone

    *NO LONGER FOR SALE!*

This is one of the prettiest basses I've owned.
I wish I could afford to buy it back.

  13. Wish I wasn't a beginner and could justify this much. Absolutely my favorite Fender that I've seen yet. While I'm wishing, may as well wish for some way to strike a deal. :crying::hyper::crying: Good luck with the sale.

  14. I own one of these Fenders (also purchased from M5Yates!).

They really are a nice bass. Photos don't do them justice! Good luck with your sale :)

This is the reason: Turns out that my bass was the one Fender used to photograph for their introduction of the walnut P Specials in the 1982 catalog:
