EDIT: SOLD, On hold pending payment Edit: Relisted FEB 2012: I never sold this back in 2008, I took it off the market. I have decided to move it now. I have decided to break up The Twins. Here is the story: A couple of years ago I bought a Bene Vintage Vortex 5 String that came with 2 necks that were interchangeable. One was a fretted maple black block and the other was a fretless rosewood neck. I quickly realized I was never going to the trouble to unbolt and swap necks. I contacted Brian Barrett at The Low End and he arranged to have Chris build a second body for this neck. The end result is that the necks can be swapped, thus 'The Twins'. Chris was moving his shop and NAMM was coming, so I finally got it back last July.(2007) I really have decided that fretless is not for me, so I think I am going to let it go. 35" Scale 19 mm bridge spacing The Benavente necks are flat and wide, I'd have to ask for the exact radius. 1 15/16 at the brass nut. Transparent Red Finish on a Mahogany body. Chris recommended that wood for tone as well as appearance. Currently strung with rounds. Benavente preamp and pups. Brian Barrett can tell you about those as he knows more about those than I do. The knobs are Vol, Pan, Treble, Mid, Bass each with a middle detent - cut/boost. You pull out the pan knob for passive operation. I have never played it out and it has almost no playing time. The pickguard is white pearloid and the plastic is still on it. There is only one flaw and that is a tiny ding at the back of the neck right by the '5th fret' dot. I promised Big Joe first dibs if I were ever to sell it, so if he shows up and wants it, it's his. (As a matter of courtesy, I will PM him, but I somehow doubt he is in the market.) Waiting time for the Bene's is (was) a year, you can have this one now. No case. Price lowered to 1000 or best offer, plus shipping (40-60 in CONUS). I won't exclude a Canadian, Western European, UK or Australian sale for a TB S/M in good standing with feedback. I have never done that but I'm open to it, I understand shipping can be expensive. I can ship disassembled to save Int'l shipping costs. I won't fudge the numbers on customs declarations of value, but if shipped separately, can be shipped as 'parts'. No Pay Pal sorry, I don't have an account there anymore and haven't for years. Payment by certified Bank check, Bank Money Order, Postal or Int'l Postal Money order. I reserve the right to change my mind and pull it if I start to feel too bad about breaking the set up. Buyer gets first dibs on the other bass should I decide to sell that as well. (natural Ash, Maple neck, fretted, blocked). Here's some pics. Great deal on a like new fretless fiver.
This is the newer Benavente shaped neck which means it's a little less chunky than the original vortex BO neck. I remember playing this on the ash bodied vintage vortex (seen in my profile) after I had the neck built and having that bass just come to life as a fretless. I haven't played it since he had the mahogany body built for it but I'd imagine it smokes! Those thin Bennie soapbars are fantastic too... I'm in the market for a fretless too!
Love love love this bass. Surprised it is still here. Great bass, great seller...Wish I had the cheddar! Marshall
Brought this back, closet's full and need to make space. Very nice 5 string fretless bass for a great price. Benevente workmanship is excellent.
Ok, sale pending and on hold for Funk Generator, if he passes then back on the board... EDIT: SOLD, On hold pending payment
Geez, looks sweet. Not sure (for me personally) about the 35" scale, but looks sweet. How many positions/"frets" is the fingerboard? I understand that the bass is most likely sold.
Not sure how many positions there are, depends upon if you are a micro-tonalist I suppose. I counted the frets, there are zero. I have received a substantial deposit and fully expect no problems with the final payment on the sale. So, this one is off the board.
Har, har. Perhaps I should have said, "Without using harmonics, how many half steps can you play on a single string before reaching the end of the fingerboard?" Congrats on the sale! I'm sure the new owner will dig it.
I have a Benevente '51 and I am positive the new owner will LOVE this bass. Most excellent price as well, glad I did not see it. az
I can't help myself. There was a reason I got stuffed into the Bass Humor forum to mod it. I can answer that quickest by taking out the twin and counting the frets. It does have more than my jazz. I'd guess a full 24 but I have to count and it is at home, not here.
FG will love it, he knows it as he is familair with the Low End and Benavente stuff. I probably could have got a bit more, but I had some medical insurance bills that need to get paid in the near future so a quick sale was in order and I didn't want to spend much time on the sale.
I certainly will! When I can afford another 6 string I plan on it being a lej. Chris and Brian make great stuff.
