What's the slap sound like on these? Anything comparable?

....I'll say warm and polite sound....more of a vintage slap...Koa I think (I could be wrong) is not the greates wood for it....But in the other hand I think you can dial whatever you are looking for on this bass.

Your B~D strings are wound backwards on the tuners.

I sold my Victor Bailey V in truly mint condition over the summer and wish I hadn't. At the time I didn't appreciate the truly unique sound these jazz V's produce. In short, it is very "tangy." The slap tone has a tang residue versus a short burp which is extremely cool. I just sucked so bad at slap and was so inexperienced with it that I didn't realize what I had. The tones you can get from this bass are extremely versatile, all crisp and all clean. The only thing it lacked from my perspective was the full, warm bodied lows. Because I was looking for a one size fits all bass, I dumped it.

A few months later I have 14 basses (I blame Talkbass for this), many different tone options and find myself looking to replace that unique tone I had with that VB Jazz V. Go figure.

    Awesome bass.
Simply awesome. This is the sleeper from Fender.
Why they stopped making it is beyond me.
