I have a 1962 Fender Jazz Bass Reissue body that has never been used. It is a medium woodgrain finish, looks like a mahogany type stain to it. Not sure if it is USA or Japanese made, in the neck pocket it has the Fender factory label with this printed no it: --------------------- 50500637 JB62DT (I assume the DT stand for some kind of trim/stain) ( F NO --------------------- It also has JB62DT stamped on the wood inside the neck pocket underneath this factory label. The body appears to be finished in either clear notro or polyester. Not sure. Almost new condition, a couple of very very minor indentions on the body but almost so small you can't see them. Should make someone a nice bass to build on. $200 or best offer. Will consider trade on a USA-made Jazz Bass or Tele Bass 4-hole neck. Thanks! 918-260-7728 (Dan)
nice stain based on the small hole next to the cnc hole under the bridge where the 62 reissue's copper grounding strap is anchored the deeper holes in the pickup routes the screw hole in the middle of the pickguard and the holes in the pickup and control cavity routes for copper plate shielding i'd guess it was a CIJ or MIJ body
That IS a nice stain...I'm interested. I'm curious- is that actually how it came from the factory? Just to be certain- this is not a re-finished body, but an original Fender Japan or USA replacement part, right? Where did it come from and how did you get this? I am curious. Thanks, G
Hello. Well, I bought it from a guy on ebay about a year ago for $253 thinking I would build my own. But, just haven't had the time. I priced it a bit lower since the market is down a bit. I ran all kinds of Google searches on that color code "JB62DT" and I found all kinds of codes but not the "DT". I did however run across some other Fender CIJ/MIJ body/parts that had the same "505" series model number and exact label so I agree, I truly think now this is an actual Fender CIJ or MIJ bass body. Maybe it was just a Japan issue type of deal. From what I can tell, this is how it came from the factory as the finish is on there but the rouge/buffing powder is still in the screw holes. I am beginning to think the "DT" stands for Dark Teakwood. At least that is what my luthier said he thinks it is. He said he heard of a "Dark Teakwood" long time ago but has never seen one and that it must have been a limited run stain color. I have evolved into a P-bass guy so I play a P-bass with a Jazz neck now. But, if I were to build another J-bass I think this would make one unique and outstanding lookIng piece of machinery.
if it was darker and ash i would guess it was this http://kenji-cij.blogspot.com/2009/04/jb-62-wal-jazz-bass.html
Wow..... that looks just nearly exactly like it. Heck, I am not sure of the age of mine. It could be the same year of manufacture or close to it from the appearance.
WOW! What a parts inventory you got going there! If I traded for anything I really need a USA made Jazz neck. But, let me go study your extensive list there for a bit and I'll get back at ya. Thanks!
Why are you calling this body a 62 reissue? How did you come to that conclusion. I'm not being a jerk........ I just want to know.
Ok ok, the reason I posted that is cause I'm checking this everyday until I get my next paycheck. ): I'm not just trolling around.
Hello! SOrry for the delay. I've been out of town travelling. Just got back. When I purchased this bass it was advertised as being a '62 Jazz Reissue body. Also, it has the Fender code for that stamped in the neck pocket. 'JB62DT' I think it is a CIJ model but not for sure.
Open to Offers. Surely someone out there would like to make a nice Jazz bass out of this gorgeous stained '62 re-issue body? Again, OPEN TO OFFERS. Or, will trade on a USA jazz neck. Thanks!
