I will put some pictures of this bass up a bit later. This is a Korean made Tobias Toby Pro Custom with an asymmetric neck. I bought this as a platform to play around with modding, and wound up with a fairly nice bass.

I am unsure whether the body wood is walnut or bubinga -- I've seen it described as both. It's a heavy and dark wood, but does look different than my Warwick, which I am sure is bubinga. There is maple and another wood in the neck but dang it if I can't remember what that other wood is!

Here's what I did: I replaced the stock bridge with a Schaller, and put in Bartolini soapbars with a Bartolini active preamp. Again, I have forgotten certain specifics. The model of the preamp escapes me, but it has a stacked bass/treble, a pull up volume which swaps the bass to passive mode, a pickup selector knob, and a pull up mid tone knob giving a very wide range of mid tone tweakage. You can crank the mids up until the bass creates its own distortion or cut them to shreds.

The bass is fairly heavy for its size and has a distinct darker growl to it if you set everything to midpoint. I like it's tone, but it doesn't make a good backup to my new Jazz MP because they need different amp settings.

The neck is very nice and the action can be set pretty low, which I always like.

Price: $200 plus any shipping. Will trade for a bass that would be a good backup to my Jazz -- quite interested in a Precision with a Jazz neck.

These are fun cool basses, the music yo era Toby's weren't that bad!

These basses don't get a lot of respect. They were very well built. The weak points were the hardware and electronics. I had the deluxe model (jazz pups/bolt on) and gigged it for about 6 years with zero issues. Very modifiable to be really nice basses.

I think it plays and sounds excellent. It has a character to it that sounds really good in certain contexts -- I think I have a file with it recorded. Yes, I do! Use headphones to get the best idea of how it sounds:

That's the sound through a BDDI straight into the board. Otherwise, there's probably some compression and EQing in the mix and mastering. I think it sounds pretty tight.

Dang, maybe I don't want to sell it!
