fs - hoyt twin 5's

Discussion in '[OLD FORUM] Bass Guitars, Amps, and Accessories: F' started by tony moore, Aug 8, 2004.

  1. a close relative is in need of funds and i'd like to help, so i'm selling the most valuable of my flock.

first up are the pair of basses i begged the (in?)famous karl hoyt to make for me. the facings and backs of both are made with the same piece of claro curly walnut! the chambered core of each is made of the same piece of mahogany with thin maple between the mahogany core and the walnut top and bottom. the necks are maple with cocobolo stringers for strength and cocobolo fingerboards and nuts. the tuners are hipshot ultralites. the pickups in both are hand made bill lawrence pickups. the bridge is made of cocobolo with a custom piezo saddle designed by karl. everything is run passive thru 2 stack pots (v/v/v/t), but there is plenty of room in the rear cavity for an active rig as well. i have the fretted strung with thomastik jazz rounds and the fretless with thomastik jazz flats.

the short of it is both basses sound fantastic to my ears. very organic, responsive and dynamic. i have the action set at about a low medium because i like to dig in a bit and alter my attack for different sounds. both are very light and balance perfectly. the neck widths at the nut are a bit wider than a p-bass and very, very comfy. i have both setup with a high c for supreme noodling :)

i'd like $1500 for the pair shipped in a double gig bag or $800 each shipped in a gig bag. paypal preferred, but i'm cool with a check or money order too. my ebay id is tony-moore for references.

If any of you are unfamiliar with Karl Hoyt's work. He is an amazing luthier. He takes great care in his work. I think you can see from the pics how nice the basses look. What you can't see is that his creations sound great and play very well, too. I own one of Karl's creations and am absolutely amazed at the playability.

The price that Tony is asking for this pair of basses is insanely low. You will not find a better deal on basses of this quality.
  3. you've got a beautiful pair of hoyts too!

 Gee whiz! What LOVELY twins! I wish I could spare the cash, I'd be all over both of those beauts.

...they look like Wals that have been smoothed by the flow of water and pebbles.
