I am reluctantly selling my Birdsong Hy5 - the very instrument pictured on the Birdsong homepage (But it has a dark pickguard now): Birdsong - Professional hand built short scale basses http://www.ebay.com/itm/Birdsong-Hy...ps=63&clkid=8864360109392720025#ht_500wt_1284 Scott built me this incredible instrument last year and it's been recorded a couple times (never gigged) and stored in my climate controlled studio. Purchased it for its versatility for a touring project that fell apart. I'm back to only working in the studio so I simply don't need it as I've got 3 other basses that can cover it's tonal ground. Plus, the wife wants to buy a house AND have a baby so I need some $$$! Mint condition, model H036. Email Scott and I'm sure he'll confirm that he built that bass for Dave Kennedy and it's the one featured on the homepage. It looks lighter on the site because it's outdoors. I have the certificate from Birdsong as well. I paid about $2500 and waited many moons to get it. You can have a MINT Birdsong HY5 with case and 2 pickgaurds immediately for $2000 b/o shipped (US only) ps - I have the Truss rod cover and original pickguard in the case. Email me for additional photos or info Thanks for looking
Yeah, Scott said it didn't quite stain as dark as he thought but then he liked it that way. I preferred more contrast with the body so I asked him to make me the dark one.
I'm not sure about the weight but I'll check when I get to my studio. Feels awfully light compared to my '75 P bass, but then so does a pickup truck
As best I can calculate with a crappy home scale, it's an 8.5lb instrument. But it's got about a TON of mojo.
It's hard to tell from your photos -- is that body a solid piece of mahogany, or is it some other wood? Also, I am assuming that the fretboard is rosewood ... is that correct? I am already the proud owner of two Birdsong 4-string basses, including a brand-new custom "Double Fusion" that I just received a little more than a week ago, and I may have a Hy5 in about 4 or 5 months (long story, but I may get someone else's bass because the person who is having it built may not be able to afford it). However, I could possibly be interested in your Hy5 instead, and save myself the wait. I missed-out on another Hy5 here, and have been kicking myself ever since I lost-out on that one! By the way (and please accept this only as some helpful advice) -- You may have greater success selling this bass, and getting replies/interest generated, if you fill-in a little more information in your profile. Also, although it is great that you are able to provide Scott Beckwith at Birdsong as a reference, if you have any other references from selling gear on other forums or ebay, etc., Talkbass members may be more receptive to dealing with you here. I went through this when I first started posting here, and listed a piece of gear or two for sale. It seems that Talkbassers (Talkbassists?) get a bit skittish when potentially dealing with someone who has no feedback and who has just recently joined the forum. If you are able to provide selling references and have a fully filled-in profile, other forum members may feel a bit more comfortable dealing with you. Welcome to Talkbass .... and best of success in selling this wonderful bass! Doug
Doug, Sorry for my long delay in thanking you for your advice. I had gotten very little interest on Talkbass so I had kind of lost hope. I'm also busy with looking for a new home (hence selling some gear) so I hadn't even logged in for a while. I will take your advice and fill in some more profile info before reposting the instrument. Also, I thought I'd included links to my ebay history which is 100% positive feedback for ten years, but if not, I will include my ebay user info as well. For anyone who reads this thread my ebay username is davidkband. I'm also very active on the recording forum Gearslutz where my username is davidkmusic. Hy5 is still available if anyone is interested and wants more info/pics, etc. Thanks!
Got the PM, David -- and replied to you. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate right now! My daughter lives in Boston and has been in the arts and music scene up there for a few years (she is an artist, and her long-time boyfriend is/was a drummer in some fairly well-known local bands). I have a long relationship with Berklee, Boston musicians and bassists, in addition to doing a few deals on Talkbass and elsewhere with Boston musicians. Way "back in the day" (1970s), I used to play all over the East Coast and throughout the Great Lakes region. Doug
When is this going to end? I just purchased a short scale and along comes this one. O wait a minute this ones not fretless phooo. Sneaking these basses into the house pass the wife is getting harder.
Bump for an awesome bass. If only I had the $$ to justify a second Hy5!! I absolutely love mine. Someone's going to get a sweet bass!
Doug asked me about the wood and the body is mahogany with a Pau Ferro fretboard. The body really changes appearance under different light. It never photographs the same twice. It's an amazing piece of mahogany.
Thanks for the update, David. Here's a bump for a great bass. I shouldn't be bumping this for everyone else to notice, because I REALLY want this bass for myself (if I can get the money together)!
