Picked this puppy up a little over a year ago, then sent 'er to Pete for some TLC and a new preamp. The action is now freakishly low, and the tonal options with the John East/SC1 combination are toe-curlingly good. Unfortunately, she's just not...me. And for a various plethora of reasons, I gotta thin the herd. Otherwise, I'd just hang onto 'er. She purty! Shucks. And the tone!!

Can not say enough about the SC1/John East deluxe combination. It originally came with a Bart 4.3 in it, and it sounded great! But I heard enough about the deluxe that I had Pete install it when I shipped it out for some TLC. When it came back, there was absolutely no comparison tonally. The combination doesn't color, it simply brings out the bass. And the B-string's just ridiculous.

It's super easy to tweak tones from one end of the spectrum to another, almost impossible to tweak it in a way that would sound bad. It's as if evil transients aren't allowed to manifest in the Realm of Skjold.

Was also asked about the neck profile:

Thin, fast neck profile. This is the most left-hand friendly 5-string I've ever played. And a killer satin finish. Tried to get the mixture off Pete for my other basses, but he wouldn't budge. Bummer.

I played this bass when it was newly built at Pete's shop. It's a sensational bass with one of the most comfortable necks you'll grab

    Great bass folks!

What's the scale length? I have a fretless 5 from Pete that's 34", but I'm not sure if that's common for him or not.

Thanks Basso! Was getting lonely in here :)

Bollenator: It's a 35" scale length, his standard scale. Due to the bridge placement, it's a comfortable 35". But if you're used to a Skjold 34", it'll be different.

From a TB review that explains it better than I can (speaking about another Skjold, but sounds like it applies to all his instruments):

Does this have the selector switch for neck/parallel/series/bridge settings or a blend knob?

Can you tell me what the knobs are? As I recall, with the East deluxe pre the stacked knobs are bass/treble and midrange frequency sweep with stacked mid cut/boost.

That would leave volume, blend?, and passive tone control? for the other two... is that correct? Main thing I want to know is if there is a pickup blend instead of the 4-position selector switch - I'm much more likely to want to favor the neck or bridge pu slightly than to go all the way to either one, so the selector switch on the Skjold's I've had before were not my thing.

Yup -- off the top of my head - volume, blend, passive tone control (push/pull). Absodefinitely no selector switch.

one more pesky question... do you know if pu's are wired in series or in parallel?
