Up for sale is my SWR Marcus Miller M2 preamp. Nothing wrong with it, works 100%, and has always been in a rack of some sort. I did have a fuse replaced within the first few months or so of having it, and it was done by an official SWR/Fender tech. That was years ago at this point.

I'm selling because I'm trying to collapse my recording gear foot print, and I've been doing more miking lately than anything else. I have all the original stuff it came with (manuals, footswitch, literature), and I may have the original box. If not, it will be well packed. More info here: http://www.swrsound.com.au/products/marcus-miller-preamp.php

Asking $550 shipped CONUS. These don't seem to come up on Talkbass much, so I checked eBay and they've been going for $575-$700 (used vs. new) it seems. If you're around 06801 or 06897, perhaps we can work out a local thing and I'll drop the price. PayPal is easiest, but I'll do other things if needed.

Trades: I'm not really looking for anything at the moment, but feel free to entice me :D The only thing I can currently think of is a Markbass New York 604 4x6 cab to go with my Minimark.

I had one of these a couple years ago. This is a stellar piece of gear with an excellent onboard compressor. GLWTS.

Too bad you aren't closer, I'd be happy to let you try it out...but I'm no where near Chicago! Oddly enough, I purchased this unit from Bass Club Chicago :p

Maybe I'll stop by the Bass club to see if they have one.
The thing is that, if you already have an active bass with an on board eq why would you need an extra rack preamp, besides the other functions it has? What do you think?

It all depends on what you're after. Unless you have a very sophisticated onboard system (some people do), the standard Bass/Mid/Treble boost/cut controls are not the same from what this outboard preamp (and many others) have to offer. That doesn't mean better or worse, just different and more options.

I find the most useful features of the M2 are the shaping circuits and the compressor. The shaping stuff also gives the pre a unique sound (some people think it's the classic SWR sound, some don't). Once I get the basic sound I'm after with the EQ section, using the different shaping circuits can tailor it in different directions, but it's easy to get back where you started. There's also the two separate switchable inputs, which I've found useful for both live and recording. The foot switch is great too.

When I originally bought it, I was pairing it with a clean high wattage power amp for live use. Once the small, lightweight class D thing really took off, I've since been down that path and the M2 has sat in my studio rack for recording.

If you are on the fence about this pre, check Marcus Miller's demo on youtube.
I've had mine for 5yrs and paired it with a QSC PLX 1602 with SWR Goliath III 4x10. It super clear and fat. The gain/master vol/boost combo will make it as dirty as you like. Q5, Ken Smith and also Fender P5 all sound great.
    I hope this helps.

    I watched that demo 75 times :D
For me it's more a bug that a real need, giving my close to zero live activity. Once
the GAS is gone I will probably resell it.
    Thanks for the input though.
