I just picked this up from Jtlee but I don't think I'm going to be able to get comfortable with it's 17mm string spacing. Here is his description which is 100% accurate. This bass is really a tremendous value. I don't think you can find a better sound or playing 5 string for such a low price!

This is a super cool bass with an excellent neck, passive PJ pickups (rare on a 5-string), 34" scale/17 mm spacing. Action is low. Has a cool retro look without looking garish.

Bass is in like new/mint condition save a few light finish scratches. Frets have no grooves or flat spots, new bone nut pro installed (better than the cheapy plastic one that came on it), custom control setup (Volume, Blend, Tone) w/new knobs (I never liked the 3-way switch & speed knobs). The blend knob does not have a center detent, which I personally like, but just thought I'd mention it.

    Specs:
    Body: Alder
    Neck: Maple w/rosewood fingerboard
    Scale length: 34"
    Frets: 21
Pickups: Yamaha split coil P, single coil J
    Bridge: Yamaha (extended B saddle)
Controls: Master volume, Pickup Blend, Tone
    Strings: New Nickelwound 45-130

Selling for $325 shipped in the US. A gig bag is included.

  2. That's nice. What's with the bridge though?

  3. looks like it extends the scale on the B string a little bit. the bass looks neat!

I own on of these and they are underrated.

I too rewired, but like a jazz bass vol vol tone with 500k pots.

The bridge is to allow proper intonation of the B string.

That's the way Yamaha builds them. There has been much discussion as to why they do it that way. Some have said it improves the sound of the B string which may be true. The B is very focused and it's nicely balanced with the other strings both as far as volume and tone. The bass really does sound good. No issues, just a little too narrow for me.

a friend of mine has this exact bass!

i played it when he first got it and suggested that he put some flats on it for that classic P sound. he let me play it again after putting some Sadowsky flats on it and it KILLED! I have wanted one ever since...

I wish I had the extra cash right now.

You mention 17 and 18 mm spacing, can't be both. Which one?

Sorry about that, my bad. It should have said 17mm. Original post has been corrected.

I just put my spacing gauge on it and it shows it to be exactly 17mm. Weight is about 9.5 lbs.
