NEW PICS ADDED BELOW You all know I'm a serious FBB supporter, IMO Matt Schmill makes amazingly high quality basses that play and sound superb. I have a fretless 6 that is a lifetime keeper, and a custom 7 fretted being built right now. That said, I simply can not warm up to this 5 string. It plays great and sounds incredible .... also records as well as any bass I've ever owned. But two things are just not right ... 1st, it's a 5 string. I find that 98% of my playing is either 6 or 7 string work, with an occassional 4 string job here and there (I have a great fretted 4 and another great fretless 4). I have no need for a 5 string and find myself constantly looking for the added range. 2nd, the body style is simply too small for my massive girth. I know a lot of you guys like a smaller, lighter bass, but I need the larger body sizes. I'm looking for a trade only for a 6 string fretted of equal (or close to equal) value. I would consider another GT7 if it's in good shape. This bass is not for sale, but as a used axe is worth in the $900 range (new from FBB the bass would be between $1700-$2000 depending on the options). Details on the bass are: Bookmatched Bacote top with a flamed maple center plate, honduras mahogony back. 35" scale, 24 fret maple/bubinga neck with a pau ferro fingerboard. Aero pick-ups, passive, Gotoh tuners and bridge. Built in 2000 by FBB Custom Bass Works www.fbbcustom.com. More details on Matt's web site see bass # 030 in the Gallery. The axe is in fantastic shape, currently strung with SIT Power Rounds. I have a crappola gig bag for it, just a POS but it'll protect it when it's in a box for shipping. Trades only, not interested in selling it .... I'll keep it for recording if I can't get a reasonable trade for it. Here are a couple of not-so-good pics, I'll take more this weekend.
