    Hey Cirrus fans -
I LOVE my Cirrus basses !!!! I absolutely dig the growl of the walnut / bubinga Cirrus I own and play. I also have a Alder/Maple/Redwood Cirrus 4 in near mint condition. It has purple stringers and custom knobs. Pau ferro fret board. The action is like that of an Alembic Essence, but dare I say better ? It plays like a dream , BUT it is a true jazz bass. Does it sound good and Cirrusy ? YES but it's not as "Geddy" sounding as the walnut / bubinga is.

I am considering trading it for a WALNUT / WALNUT Cirrus 4. Pau ferro fret board, no inlays. Hand rubbed oil finish.

Check out my band on myspace and add me ! Hear my Cirrus !!! (it RULES !)

    thanks, Mike :bassist: :D

Beautiful bass. If it was a fiver, I'd be all over this. Good luck!

Yes, interest for sure. I've always wanted one. How's the condition ? How's the sound compared to a non-poly ?

  6. Whoa.. That is a super nice looking bass

  7. I have a wenge/walnut loaded with EMG 35DC. Also installed the EMG BQS pre. If we traded I would include the original pups and pre. I didn't know when the PV pre bit the dust I could order one pretty cheap. Even if we dont trade I might order the pre and go back to stock to match the 2 fivers. I will say the EMG's give this thing some muscle as if it didn't already have enough lol.

I like the offers so far. Please post pics and desrcribe
    a. the condition
    b. the fret board condition / action

    Thanks,
    Mike

Here are some more pics of mine...

  9. Here is my wenge with the EMG's. Very nice low action. Has some groove wear on the G side near the neck pup. The pics show a big discoloration from the flash which magnifys it. Hard to see looking at it. Also has a hipshot drop D tuner. While not as in as good a shape as yours it does have 350.00 worth of electronics and the originals would come with it. I say all this but hell this is my baby. I don't even know if I would want to do it. I have a maple cirrus 5er and I love the poly finish a bit better plus I have a walnut 5er that looks close to this on the way. Also the EMG BQS pre has sweepable mids.

It's a real beauty ! Ummmmm, how's the tone (EMG's are nice. In other words, Cirrus Growl ?) ? I really love the tone of the walnut Cirrus's. Wear on the G side ? Does that affect the fretboard ? Is there any fret noise ? Mine has zero. I don't use a hipshot. Does that affect the way it plays ? Thanks. It's DEFINITELY what I'm looking for as wood goes.

  11. Well I am a guitar player lol so all I can say is the EMG's are very modern and punchy. Growl? I don't know. Look at the pic between the neck pup and the neck on the g string side. some grooves from fingernails from slapping. An issue I suppose with unfinished basses. I do still have the original tuner. Mine didn't have any fret noise at all either but I was just messing with it and I have the action really low now so there is a little and a mean very little. But to be very honest with you I have had this bass for a long time. Yours does look better as it appears to be newer. I got mine around the time they first came out. Plays and sounds excellent. If you want a pristine one this this isn't it. It does however play very well and sounds great.

I guess I just didn't understand the earlier description. I don't care one bit about scratches from slapping - umm, IT's A BASS !! I like the older Cirrus's, too. Not to be too picky, but do you have any sample recordings I could hear of it ? Also you do have the original pre, and pups, but the pre doesn't work ?

Oh, "GROWL" means that sound every bass player hopes to have - it's that Geddy Lee / Chris Squire tone that makes you sigh and feel the world is OK ! You know, that "crunch". Makes me happy just thinking about it !! Ahhhh

  13. Yes I do have the original electronics and the pre went bad I think. I never had it diagnosed but the bass got passive sounding and lost volume. Sounded like the preamp to me. I just replaced everything. The EMG's are not as tall as the stockers so I added a shim underneath to raise the pups. Just 2 small screws holding the shim in. I didn't want to go cutting on the bass to make a 4 inch EMG fit so I used a 3.5 emg and it left a slightly larger gap. To make that look better I took the foam that the EMG packing cut it to fit and dipped it black paint. Let it dry and pushed it in there to fill the gap. Looks pretty cool. I am going to call Peavey today and see what a replacement pre cost. I heard it was only 25 to 30 bucks.

Well to me it growls but also sounds modern. Go here for sound clips http://music.yahoo.com/release/6384826 You can listen to them all but #4 Draw the Line really isolates it. I think it growls pretty damn good. Songs are a bit dated as they were recorded at least 10 years ago. Just don't laugh at my playing lol.

  14. I am really at a crossroad here lol. I love your bass. It's really a nice looking bass. But my Cirrus has been my go to baby for 10 years and I adore it. Hell I just got off the phone with Peavey and I ordered 2 new preamps. One to replace the EMG's in the Cirrus and another to replace EMG's in my Fury5. They were only 31.99 each and PV covers the shipping. So now I have even more tonal options if I do replace the EMG's.

The link I posted are from when I first got it and just starting to play bass fulltime. Sounded cool for an amateur recording. That engineer was our guitar player and he is a bada$$ engineer now. Our CD was his very first attempt.

First of all, YOUR BAND ROCKS ! Wow, you guys are good. You have the whole Southern Rock, Big Band Jazz, R&B thing going. That's some complicated, but groovy stuff. I heard #4 (Draw The Line) and the bass sounds fantastic.

OK - Why don't we agree to wait a week or so and let you think about it. I am up for trading. My Cirrus is my baby, too, so I know how you feel. My pups are a bit higher than my walnut, so I'd probably take the shims out of yours (if we do it). I rarely play mine because I don't want to scratch it. It has new DR lowriders on it and sounds like a piano. It's amazing. The volume pot has a very slight curve in it from being placed on a guitar stand, but is perfect. The neck feels like satin. Overall, it's like holding and looking at a Rolls Royce (if they made basses!!) :D

Why don't we both step back and see what we want to do. You have my phone number. Call me anytime, my friend.

  16. Thank you for the kind comments. Waiting a week or so sounds cool. I feel a bit foolish for jumping in the trade thread then getting cold feet lol. If someone else offers you don't wait on me.

  18. I want to see what it sounds like with the stockers back in it with a working preamp. I have a feeling I am going to love it. Hopefully I will get the new preamps by Friday. If I decide to keep mine have you entertained the idea of selling yours?

    Hey !
I know you will love the stock sound. The irony is, I love the way yours sounds the way it is, AND having the ability to swap pups and pre's makes yours the best of both worlds. I have entertained the idea of selling mine, but I would just use the money to buy another Cirrus, therefore a trade with a fellow TalkBasser seems like a logical option.

Here's my objective - to have another Cirrus similiar to mine as a back up on stage. I know what I want, so that makes it tough, too. On the one hand, I can wait and see if anyone wants to trade their Cirrus for mine. That could be a long waiting game. On the other hand, I could sell mine and buy EXACTLY what I want - But what if someone has a Cirrus to trade that I didn't think of ??? ....back to square one ! :(

  20. Well the sound clips your heard were done 9 or 10 years ago and were done on the stock pups and pre. I only recently changed out to the EMG's I don't have any clips of it with the EMG's.
