I'm after some links (myspace,purevolume..etc) of songs containing a bass part with the fulltone bassdrive. I am yet to hear a clip of this pedal within a band context. AND I WANT TOO!
The bass player from Foo fighters uses it as his overdrive. I don't know any specific songs, but my guess is that if it is a newer song with overdrive, it is coming from the bassdrive.
Isis would be a good band to check out. Jeff Caxide has a Bassdrive on his board. If he's had it as long as I think he has, you'll hear it on a few songs from Panopticon, as well as In the Absence of Truth.
The bass player for Cave In uses one as well. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=22954250 I can hear it in trepanning especially around 2:15, he uses it in off to ruin as well.
It isn't hard to spot - just listen for the overdrive. He doesn't have another pedal for that, you know... there's only one choice. Off the top of my head... "Grinning Mouths", from Panopticon: Enjoy. He ends up using more than the Bassdrive towards the end of the song, though. I believe that ambience is from his Boss PS-3.
wow this thread is actually working a bit. No bashing me yet saying SEARCH FIRST! Which is good, cuz i actually did! Keep em coming...
Heh... no problem. It's one of those things I've remained keenly aware of... everyone talks about how great it is, and some even provide solo clips... but nothing says "this pedal truly rocks" like proving how well it works in a band context.
I use it in two of the songs we recorded for our seven song demo, unfortunately we haven't mixed either of the two songs I use it heavily on....
Manny from Glassjaw uses one for his overdrive stuff. A few great examples are Cosmopolitan Blood Loss (through most of the song, that rough grindy tone), as well as Ape Dos Mil (in the chorus, in use with his Morley), just to name two better known, fairly accessible examples. It appears all over the place on the albums.
Yeah I saw his amp settings, the valve drive is set for a warm tube tone which is why his tone is so thumpy I do know he uses the Overdrive on Cheer Up Boys, if you listen to it it has a very driven feel to the p-bass
I think the Fulltone bass drive works great in a band setting! I'll post soundclips when the guitarist sends me some samples.
That bit from Cave In sounds like the tone I'm trying to squeeze out of my Rat. Maybe I should look into a Bassdrive.... DAMN YOU GAS! EDIT: The bass tones on Glassjaw's "Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence" are to DIE for!
Ha! I thought I knew that name.....I know Stephen....great guy and really great musician. He did Audrey Ryan's last cd and it's really well done.
