    Hi,

Our band needs a kickin' song a la The Chilis or Rage but it can't be one of their songs because we already have some of their songs in our set and we don't want to be a RATM/RCHP tribute band.

Anyone have any suggestions? Something with the same aggressiveness (and with some slap ;) ) that RATM or RHCP songs would have.

    thanks a million

  2. my band used to cover incubus' "new skin". it's got some fun slappin', and it's definitely a crowd-pleaser.

Even though I'm not into metal or funk at all, I really dig the song "Sunless Saturday" by Fishbone. I think it's because I remember it from their performance on SNL. There are some funky bass licks in it.

    Um...BUMPAROONIE!

Wakey wakey, old thread; I need some danceable rockers, to fit in between Flock Of Seagulls (I Ran) and Surrender (Cheap Trick). Foxy Lady is in there, what else is good for a 2 guitar groove (and bass has no slap or pop to him, but huge heavy black hands, holding down that bottom).

    Whatcha got?

  7. You could do some Dave Matthews Band songs.

The Dead were pretty funky as were The Band if you want to go old school. Older school, go Motown, Chuck, or Buddy.

Living color / Fishbone - both great for loud funk...

Also consider looking at old P-funk and rocking it out a bit.

  17. Gang of Four - Entertainment (album). Hugely overlooked in the U.S.

Fishbone, Norwood Fisher is the man for moi, criminally underrated, immense technique and grooves. Check out 'Bonin' in the Boneyard, I'll upload a play-along in the near future, that took some doing to get down accurately, he played it in '88.

Yeah, I've been thinking Testify is a good candidate for this. Also Are You Going to Go My Way by Kravitz seems pretty funky to me.
