Fuse Question

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by mzungu, Jan 16, 2005.

  1. I just bought an old 70s tube amp and the fuse it came with isn't the same as what is specified on the back. I went to Radio Shack to get some new fuses for the amp but I wasn't sure if it requires a slow blow or quick blow fuse. I bought both types. What should I use? Or does it matter? I did try to search on this subject but couldn't find an answer. Thanks.
  2. I suspect slow-blow. The reason: amps have a big power transformer. When you turn it on, this acts in the circuit like an inductor that's being charged, so there's a lot of inrush current for a few milliseconds.
