Rob, my bass player has just bought himself a really pretty-looking G&L ASAT bass and he's thrilled to bits with it.
It's a nice instrument, with a lovely neck - like a Jazz at the nut and a P-bass towards the body - and a sound to die for. That small Tele body makes the neck look as if it goes on forever, but surprisingly, it's not excessively neck-heavy.
The electrics are amazing - a HUGE range of sounds from a relatively simple setup.
    Anybody else here using one?

Yes, and I love it. I got mine in October & it's currently the #1 in rotation. Very versatile, thought it took me a little while to get used to those HOT MFD's, but I finally learned the magic of backing that bridge control back almost 1/2 way. That's the sweet spot. Everybody in my band likes that bass the best too.
    Very underrated bass....

i've owned one for about 4 months and love it. it's my 1st choice for anything. i play it in passive mode about 99% of the time and couldn't be happier with it's range of tones.

You got me scratching my head - what's the bridge control? I have an L-2000 which is supposed to have the same controls as the ASAT but it doesn't have any bridge control. Which knob are you referring to?

My current ASAT rules the roost. I've been playin' 'em for about 5 years now with no end in sight.

While my main player is an El Toro, this is #2.

What are the controls on this bass? I played one recently and just couldn't figure out what was going on.

I meant the bass tone knob nearest the bridge.

My ASAT is one of my favorite basses. A bass player friend of mine heard it at a gig and described the sound as "kapow". I couldn't agree more.

  14. WOAH! that ASAT is GORGEOUS man!

I was thinking of getting one (or maybe 2 eventually) - still torn between that glitter-gold finish and butterscotch blonde...

mine's butterscotch blonde with the gunt tint oil neck and birds eye maple fretboard. not as "bling" as the metal flake finishes, but a nice modern classic color...

since there are a bunch of ASAT-ians on this thread, I can ask... Why aren't they doing ASAT 5'vers any more?
