I was just wondering how similar these two are in sound. I am the proud owner of a Sterling, and hopefully I will be getting an ASAT. I just don't want to be stuck with two basses that sound the same.

They just both have the big, for lack of better terms, MM style pickup. The ASAT just has two of them. That is why it concerned me.

you'll be all right. i own one of each now. when i have both pu's on in active mode on the ASAT with treble and bass about halfway up it sounds similiar to the Sterling, but not LIKE it. in fact, i can't get it to sound exactly like it at all. having both basses will offer you plenty of variety that you wouldn't get from just owning one or the other. don't sweat it.
