Hello everyone, this is my first thread in a long time and I hope you can help me.

I'm interested in buying this wonderful G&L ASAT. It checks all marks for me, with the exceptions of (almost completely) stripped truss rod nut (owner used a wrong size hex key). The truss rod turns with a correct hex key, but it barely grips. Can this be repaired? I can get the bass for a very low price, but if this is an expensive repair, I think I'm going to pass.

I don't know if this helps, but the rod access hole is located on the head side of the neck.

    Thank you! :)

Just the nut is stripped? Easy to replace the nut once you get it off of there. Not expensive even if you have to buy a tool to get the stripped nut off.

Are you certain that there are no other problems with the truss rod? Stripped truss rod nuts are often a sign of bigger issues.

A cheap trick is to send a wide elastic band down into the end of the nut, using the stock hex key to turn it. The elastic band fills into what is left of the pattern inside the nut, without risking crowning out the nut any further.

Yes, it's the nut only. I managed to get the truss rod to turn, but hex key barely got a grip. I'll try the trick with the elastic band, good suggestion!
Is the nut universal or specific to G&L only?
    Thanks!

They're not proprietary, but you do have to get the right one. You can buy one directly from G&L for $10 and save the trouble of finding the right one, or maybe someone who knows will be able to tell you what nut you need.
