G&L EMG transplant

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Burlington, Oct 22, 2010.

  1. Someone just posted the other day about putting EMG35's in their L2k, but I can't find the thread!

I ask because I love the way G&L's look and feel, but the sound isnt for me. I may be able to pick up an older L-1500 for super cheap, so I'm curious about the specifics of fitting EMGs.

    Inb4 blasphemy.

G&L pickups are a unusual size, meaning that if you want to put something else in there, you'll be braking out the router...

Plus, you know, the blasphemy and all that.

  4. IIRC, this guy was able to fit EMG35s in the stock routes, and there were only little gaps on the sides.

Measure your pickups. EMG's sizes are clearly posted (hell, sometimes they're even built into the name: EMG35 = 3.5" long, EMG40 = 4.0" long, ...) and the soapbars are all 1.5" wide.

The L5500 had emg's stock in them

  7. Yup, and sadly they only came in 5 strings.

Anyone know the dimensions for MFD humbuckers?
