G&L fretless nut height

    I had to install a new nut on my 1982 2000EL fretless bass. The manual that came with my bass says to set string height at the nut at .022 between the fret and the string, but does not cover string height at the nut for fretless? .022 "feels high" to me...
    What's the spec for this? Is there a "lower limit" I should avoid, or is this mostly a feel/preference thing?

  2. I set up my fretless basses so that the string just touches the fingerboard. That's the only real way to achieve consistent sound on open vs 'fingered' notes.
