I'm pretty sure the listing is correct that it's the initial version of the SB-2. I'm not a G&L historian, so I don't know when it changed to the P/J config.

The G&L in the ebay listing is an 80's version not sure what year it is.The G&L's SB-2 went to a P/J pickup config in the early 90's.I bought one new in 1995 and it had the p/j setup. The ebay listed bass is a classic and more then likely was at least touched by Leo Fender, in those days G&L was small and was as close to a custom shop as you could get.

It's a 1982 SB-2. G&L was still using the more Fenderish headstocks then as it was only their third year of production. I've seen a lot of old SB-2's with the J config, it's just what they used to do and I'm not sure when they changed to P-J. The G&L website has a serial number dating system on their FAQs page, I'd link but their site is all flash.

I really do like the looks of that headstock-way moreso than the headknocker they use now.
