I'm debating whether to sell my G&L TRIBUTE L2000 and getting myself a Dynabass.

I play mainly rock, ranging from indie rock/melodic rock to hard rock/metalcore.

I play 50/50 with pick and fingers.

The idea came into my head once I started playing further up the neck and more all over the place....the neck on the G&L seems too wide....or it could just be my technique.

I view these two as the ultimates in versatility. How would everyone say that I proceed.

If I left out anything, please ask.

Get the G&L with the Jazz neck on it. You can order them that way. Then you get the G&L growl with the smaller neck.

Negative. My G&L is a Tribute, and those custom neck orders only happen with the America-made ones. No way I can afford it.

Wow ~ these are my first two basses. I had a 1981 or so L2000 and sold it for a Dyna Bass. The Dyna was way lighter and had a 3 band preamp on it which gave me more tonal control & it also played better. I still own the Dyna but wish I had kept them both~ the G&L had that HUGE sound that I have always missed. There have been several versions of the Dyna and the L2000 has probably changed a bit too, but I hope this helps.

How does the low end of the Dynabass hold up, in your opinion?

I have had a tribute and it is not a bad bass but it is not a US G&L. I personally would go with the older US made Peavey.

You SX idiots need to stop this senseless spamming. My friend had a Dynabass back in the day, and it was a great sounding instrument. It was years ago, and my only bass was an '83 Precision, but IIRC, the Dynabass had enough low end to hold up (it certainly had more than my P-bass....:D)

  9. I used a Koa/purple heart neck-through Dynabass with a P/J configuration. It did have some pretty big bottom so long as the P pup was in the loop.

My G&L is the Biggest sounding bass I ever heard.
Although the Dynabass has a 3-band and the G&L has a 2-band pre, I do believe the G&L has MORE tonal options dues to the different wiring and pickup configurations.

And if you use a pick, the G&L sounds great for that.

You were just joking? Okay, in that case I'm sorry I came down on you. And I guess you realize how annoying it is to have people introduce options the OP didn't express any interest in.....

Speaking of which...could I get some more opinions concerning the question of my thread?

I already gave my positive opinion of the Peavey. I haven't tried a Tribute, but I had an L-2000 and wasn't impressed at all. The neck was too chunky for my tastes and the best tonal option was the one that made a very Jazz-like tone. Supposedly it has a Stingray tone in there, but I had a Stingray at the same time, and the G&L paled in comparison.

My hands are pretty average sized and I have NO problems with neck width on a 5'er... maybe have your technique/positioning checked?

Other than that - both are nice basses.

    Depends what 5-stringer you have.
