  1. Hey guys,
So i couldnt resist when i saw this bass the other day, never even played a G&L but its just beautiful!
I already posted about this bass earlyer and have been doing some research on G&L and i have to say it really hard to find any info!
I think this one is from around 2003, but its not sure!
Im curious about the recent changes those basses had, like the 6 bolt neck thing whats your opinion about that?
Also it seems that its really hard to find anything else than Tribute G&l new on the net for the moment, why is that?
And i cant seem to find any of the custom colors anywhere, was this baby blue a custom color or has it been available in shops at some point?
If it was a custom thing how much do you think it was worth?
Thank you very much, hope you can help.

It's a standard finish that is offered from G&L.
I own both 3-bolt and the new 6-bolt models and playing wise I notice NO difference.

If you go to G&L's website: http://www.glguitars.com/
Look under finishes and you will see that Baby Blue is listed as a standard finish on all G&L models

For what it's worth, there is an entire G&L forum here on Talkbass. If you can't find your answers in a TB search, or a G&L forum search, I'm sure they'd be able to help you out. :)

I know they helped sell me on a Tribute L-2000. :bassist:

From the FAQ page at the above referenced web site:

    http://www.glguitars.com/faq/index.asp

    Q. What year was my G&L produced?
    A. The most accurate method of dating a G&L instrument is to remove the neck from the body. Inside the neck pocket of each G&L is the "born date".

In early 2002, we plan to begin construction of a database of instruments which will either be accessible either by this site or www.guitarsbyleo.com, the G&L Enthusiast Site. Before construction begins on this database, however, the instrument Registry at www.guitarsbyleo.com will be changed to return one or more serial numbers close to the number searched for. Therefore, if the number searched for is not in the Registry, the user will get an approximation of when the serial number queried was produced.

For instruments you may also reference the Chronology & Dating page if you know your G&L was made between 1980 and 1992. There is some information about later chronology on this page as well.

Im curious about the recent changes those basses had, like the 6 bolt neck thing whats your opinion about that?
Ton of info on G&L basses/models/changes/etc. here on GGJaguar's site: http://www.ggjaguar.com/sb-2-89.htm . 6 bolt necks vs. 3 bolt necks is a non-issue really. I don't look at it as an advancement in any way. The 3 bolt neck is perfectly secure and allows for the micro-tilt adjustment of the neck. If you need to adjust or "shim" a 6 bolt neck you have to remove six screws and remove the neck. If you want to adjust a 3 bolt neck you loosen one neck screw, tweak the micro tilt screw and re-tighten the neck screw. Done.

Also it seems that its really hard to find anything else than Tribute G&l new on the net for the moment, why is that?
Can't answer that. I've never seen a time when they weren't available; you've got to understand that G&L is a relatively small company. Always have been. They don't churn out a million basses a year, and their authorized dealer network for new basses is comparatively small. They turn up regularly on the 'bay and on other boards used. Regarding SB-2's in particular, a Google search with the query G&L+SB-2+bass+for sale returned 18 pages of results.

And i cant seem to find any of the custom colors anywhere, was this baby blue a custom color or has it been available in shops at some point?
G&L's website covers standard and custom colors. http://www.glguitars.com/finishes/index.asp . Baby Blue is a standard color. Matching headstock is an extra cost option. http://www.glguitars.com/options/options.asp . Check w/ a G&L dealer for pricing: http://www.glguitars.com/us dealers/gl_dealers.html . US Dealers are listed alphabetically.
