iGreetings TBers! I come to you from MX bearing a question I've recently taken a liking to the G&L SB-2 Only to find out that it lacks a tone knob. How much a burden would this impose on me? Would I be better off getting a Schecter Elite 4 instead?
I've played them and I think they are decent sounding basses. Remember, you can always use your amp's tone knob.
I have a SB-2, it's an excellent bass! I have not found a need for a tone control, between the amp and the two volume controls I have enough variation for my needs. But, if you want to mod it to have a tone control, some of the guys over at the Dudepi have performed that mod. They can direct you on the "how to"...
i didnt see much need for one either i was just wondering but it seems ive hit another snag. i cannot seem to find a website that carries them even ebay has failed me.
I don't see any new/used on their sites, but they are bigger G&L dealers. They might have one in stock or on the way... Link 1 Link 2 I saw a used one about a week ago on another web site, but it's gone now. I'll keep lookin'.
I got lucky a few years ago, found it used on some web site from the south... $400. They generally go used on Ebay for $700 range..
I never touched a Tribute, but from what I understand the only real differences are; the neck is not bi-cut, the electronics are not all American made (pups are US, the SB-2 does not have a preamp like the L2000, so no difference), and the pots are not top notch (who cares, easily replaced if they start to suck).
I play G&L's....one of my SB-2's has the tone control mod done to it. I still run the tone knob wide open anyway. LOL
