I decided to pick up a G&L L-2500. After playing it in the shop several times, reading reviews, and taking a short road trip to check out KSD and Skyline by Lakland, I decided that the Tribute best suited my needs at this time. The price is great too. Although I prefer 35" scale, I think the B string is clear. I really love the electronics. The bass is capable of being very mellow and dark sound while also it can get very sharp for a slap attack. I haven't used the pick yet, but I'm sure it will sound great. Thanks everyone for your advice and input. After owning a bunch of boutique basses, I found myself pretty ignorant of the budget models. Frankly, as good as the Tribute, Skyline, and KSD are, there is no reason for a younger player or older player on a budget to rush and pay money for a bass they can't afford.

Congrats and welcome to the club. I've got 3 G&Ls--totally love them.
