G strings sounds dead

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by greendayjustin, Jun 3, 2004.

  1. Hey, I just got a new (used) Fender '57 RI precision bass. The E and A strings sound great, but when a play the G and D strings they sound kinda dead and dont really have a lot of sustain to them. Is there anything I can do to give the G and D strings a little more life?
  2. There have been some threads on boiling strings to extend their life, but if you don't know their mileage, it might be better to put a new set on, then you will know what they are, whether you like them and (eventually), how long they last.
  3. I put new strings on just the other day. I was thinking maybe there is a bridge adjustment or something I can do to get some more "pop" out of them (when slapping)?
