I have a Warwick Streamer LX with a fresh Battery and I plug into a EBS Drome Combo. With the Volume on the Combo turned down to zero and the volume on the Bass turned up to full,I adjust the gain.I have to turn the Gain three quarters before the led lights up.Is this o.k or is the Bass signal very weak? I just hope it is not damaging the amp.Any info on the correct way to use the Gain stage would be great.
General rule is to turn the gain up until indicator starts flashing and then turn it back a bit. The gain usually is the preamp volume. I have to turn the gain on my Workingman 300 about 5/6 of the way up to get max volume from it. When setting up your rig for gig volume, you might just back your bass volume off a bit so that if you need more volume it will be available at the bass.
Does the amp have 2 inputs. Usually one input is stronger than the other to allow for both passive and active (ie hot signal and low signal) basses. Some amps have a button that pads the input by between 5 and 20dB. Check you haven't accidentally engaged it. The other problem may be your pickup height. Some basses are more sensitive to changes in pickup height than others. Try bringing the pickups closer to the strings to increase the signal strength. Do you ever get sound guys asking for more level from the bass?
