Gallien Krueger question

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Chris3142, Dec 3, 2001.

  1. Okay, so maybe 6 months ago I bought a Gallien-Krueger 400rb 2x10 combo and a Morley A/B pedal to go with my ampeg ba115 figuring that it was a nice solution to me getting a nice punch, along with some low end. Okay, so now i want to have a nice simple setup (without the A/B), but i dont think I want the 15 inch speaker. Actually i'm almost positive that i dont want the 15 inch speaker. So, what i'm wondering is, Can I buy a 4x10 cabinet and just use that as my second cab? because i'm not so sure about the whole Bi-amping thing, and i've never seen it done with a gallien. So sorry if thats a dumb question but i've never seen a gallien krueger in a stack form without a 15 inch speaker. Thanks for your help. And if it wont work, what would you recommend i do?

If your question is, "Can I hook up a 4x10 cab to my GK 400RB/210?" Then, yes, absolutely. There is absolutely no reason in the world why that wouldnt work. Just buy a good 4x10 and hook 'er up to your GK combo. Get a good piece of speaker cable, and make sure the ohms match up. Usually, they dont want you using anything under 8 ohms. (less ohms=less resistance, therefore more work for your amplifier.) Most 4x10s are 8 ohms anyway.

If I have confused you in any way, just ignore all the stuff about ohms and whatever. The basic thing is, yes, you can do it.

  3. thanks lo-end, The GK website says that the 400rb head is 150 watts at 8 ohms, and 240 watts at 4 ohms. It also says that on my combo there's 150 watts going into the internal speakers. What does that leave for the external cab? there's another speaker out on the head, so what ohms should i get for the cab? and how much total power will i have going into the two cabs? thanks again to anyone who helps.

Chris, based on the specs in your second post, if you add an 8 ohm 4X10, the amp will put out 240 watts, 120 of which will go to the internal speakers, and 120 to the 4x10.

yes absolutely add an 8 ohm 4x10 to your 400rb 210 combo. it'll work great.

MF has a good deal on an alumabass closeout - they have the s410t left for 350 bux. good deal.

  7. okay, thanks everyone, now i'm on my search for the best 4x10 for the job.
