There is a Gary Willis bass on ebay.

The description (and photo) reminds me of those basses for sale in Indonesia.

His description of the tuners and ramp merit scrutiny.

Everyone look around to make sure you still have your bass!

"This is a beautiful Ibanez Gary Willis fretless bass...natural wood grain finish...5-string...passive and active pick-up( pull the volume knob out, it's active...push it in, it's passive...the bridge is a heavy duty Kahler style...the tuning pegs are the coolest I've ever seen..Ibanez calls them tuning gears...there is also a weird piece of wood that can be removed(located between the pick-up and the neck)that I guess is some sort of thumb rest..it comes with a Ibanez hard shell case. "

    *uh-hem*

    ......link please?:D

  3. it's just the normal gary willis sig bass. played one not too long ago and it's one of the few ibanezeseseses that sounds good to me but it's also ridiculously over priced.

  4. From that description it sounds pretty fishy... almost like it could be a gary willis signature ibanez.. that would be too weird though.

It's an accurate description of an Ibanez Gary Willis bass. The tuners are a non-standard type.

    None.
i e-mailed this guy asking why he thought it was VERY RARE.

he said it was the only one he's ever seen.

    the logic of it all!

In his defense, IME there really aren't many of them around. I've seen one in a store exactly one time, I've seen two others... and one of those was Gary's:)

technically, i wouldn't call something that is still in production any where near rare.

rare implies collectible, and if you can still order one...

    but, hey - that's me.

I agree. I guess I'm taking the other definition, "not many around" into consideration. BTW Walter Woods amps are still in production;). They are indeed rare.

You're right, they (the GW's) aren't collectible... but try to find a used one.

hell, ive never been able to find one of these. and unlike every other bass available they barely ever come up on ebay or bassgear. id really like to try one but im not about to pay that kind of money for an ibanez without playing it first

    well, maybe i'm jaded.

out here in LALA land, we had a few in the local recycler for weeks at $700.00.

good point about the walter woods.

    well taken!

    Yeah maybe... wanna fight?

    :D ;)

I've played a sum total of three. Nice basses with this caveat: the Willis sound is in Gary's hands. In mine I sounded just like me.

    Amazing, ain't it?

The guitar is still in production and it is still featured on Gary's web page. I also played one at Sam Ash in Tampa.

What is rare if the Ibanez Verdine White 4 that I had for awhile. It came out at the same time the Willis model did. It, however, is out of production.

i bought an envelope filter so i could sound like gary willis on tribal tech's astro chimp.

turns out i sound like "geese farts on a muggy day."

anyone that can identify that last quote gets my fender jazz.

    well, maybe. maybe not.
